Za Bled je slovenski pesnik France Prešern nekoč zapisal: “dežela kranjska nima lepšga kraja kot je z okol´co ta podoba raja” . Romantična podoba kraja z jezerom , otokom, cerkvijo in gradom je danes kot nekdaj , le novodobnih romarjev je veliko več.

Z združitvijo več vasi je leta 1960 nastalo mestno naselje Bled . Današnje urbano naselje je nastalo z združitvijo vasi Grad, Mlino, Rečica, Zagorice in Želeče, ki so razporejene okoli jezera in ločene z vrsto samostojnih vzpetin (Grad/Grajski hrib 599 m nm, Straža 646 m nm, Kozarca 558 m nm, Velika in Mala Osojnica 756 oz. 685 m nm in Ravnica 729 m nm.
Zgodovina Bled-a
Prve redke sledi človeka na Bledu segajo v kameno dobo. V železni dobi, ko so v alpskih krajih pričeli pridobivati železo, je bila poseljenost vedno gostejša. Prvi obiskovalci Bleda so bili romarji, ki so iz Kranjske, Koroške, Štajerske, Primorske, Furlanije in Avstrije romali k Marijini cerkvi na otoku. Janez Vajkard Valvasor, plemič in polihistor Kranjske v knjigi Slava vojvodine Kranjske iz leta 1689 med drugim poroča tudi o blejskih termalnih vrelcih. Razvoj turizma sega v leto 1855, ko je švicarski zdravilec Arnold Rikli med prvimi spoznal zdravilne naravne danosti (sonce, voda, zrak) Bleda.
V letu 1870 je z dograditvijo Gorenjske (železniške) proge Ljubljana—Trbiž kraj dobil svojo železniško postajo v Lescah. Z Bohinjsko železniško progo je kraj dobil postajo nad jezerom , danes Bled jezero. Bohinjska železniška proga vključuje tako 89 km dolgo Bohinjsko (Jesenice-Gorica) kot 55 km dolgo t. i. Kraško progo (Gorica-Trst), skupaj 144 kilometrov dolg odsek sicer 717 kilometrov dolge železniške povezave Praga–Jesenice–Gorica–Trst. Zgrajena je bila med letoma 1900 in 1906 kot povezava srednje Evrope z Jadranskim morjem.
Med obema vojnama je postal Bled najbolj svetovljansko letovišče v Jugoslaviji in poletna rezidenca Karađorđevićev, kot tudi središče političnega in diplomatskega življenja v poletnih mesecih. Po 2. sv. vojni so prešli objekti nekdanje kraljevine v slovenske roke. Zaradi svetovnega slovesa in Titove rezidence (Vila Bled) je Bled ostal “srečevališče” mnogih državnikov, politikov in kulturnikov iz domovine in tujine.

Okoli jezera po kulturno zgodovinski poti
Pot okoli jezera bomo začeli pri zbirnem mestu pred hotelom Park in nadaljevali po sončni stran v smeri gradu.
Povzpnemo se do občinske stavbe in nato spustimo do jezerske promenade.

Nadaljujemo mimo gradu na ragledno ploščad s pogledom na jezero. Poleg ploščadi je opremljena plezalna stena.
Nadaljujemo naprej po stopnicah in se spustimo na razgledno pot. Ustavimo se na razglednih točkah s pogledom na jezero in klopcami za počitek. Ko pridemo na razcep zavijemo levo in hodimo 50 m , nakar se spustimo na cesto ob jezeru in nadaljujemo proti veslaškemu centru. Od veslaškega centra nadaljujemo proti veliki Zaki in mimo kampa in rent-a-boat po pločniku. Na ovinku se pot spusti po stopnicah do jezera in nadaljujemo po mostovžu, kjer je lep razgled na otok in jezero. Skali v vodi je polno kovancev sprehajalcev.
Nadaljujemo po poti ob jezeru, ki se pod vilo Bled zoži v ozek prehod. Tu srečamo Bobija, akademskega slikarja, ki ob dnevih brez padavin razstavlja slike otoka in cerkve na otoku v vseh letnih časih in urah dneva

Nato nadaljujemo mimo čolnarne, kjer poleti lahko srečamo, še enega slikarja, ki ima na ograji vile Bled razstavljene slike otoka, predvsem s poletnimi motivi.
Nadaljujemo po peš poti mimo hotela Toplice do restavracije Park, kjer si lahko privoščimo sladogled (sladogled-najboljši sladoled) ali kremšnito s kozarcem muškatnega vina.
Okoli jezera po razgledni poti pod grajskim pobočjem in pod Stražo
Pot začnemo pred hotelom Park in nadaljujemo ob jezeru do prešernovega spomenika, kjer se usmerimo proti gradu. Ko pridemo do strmega dela stopnic, zavijemo levo na gozdno pot in nadaljujemo pod skalo, na kateri stoji grad.

Kmalu se spustimo do veslaške promenade ali pa nadaljujemo po obronkih do odcepa za Višce in nato še 100 m, kjer zavijemo ostro levo in pri naslednjem križanju desno in se spustimo do veslaške promenade.

Na drugi strani jezera se pri trgovini Merkator v Mlinu (steber s smernimi tablami) vzpnemo najprej po manjših stopnicah nato pa po stezi na strmem travnatem pobočju. Ko pridemo do stebra s smernimi tablami za( Megre, Mlino, Razgledna pot) zavijemo levo na razgledno pot in nadaljujemo do sedla, kjer se spustimo do spodnje postaje sedežnice . Po cesti nadaljujemo do hotela Berc, kjer zavijemo levo in se držimo levo , Ko pridemo do hotela Korotan (poraščen s plezalkami) se spustimo po stopnicah do jezera.
Okoli jezera po snegu
Je najbolj idiličen sprehod okoli jezera. Če nismo prezgodnji, je pot okoli jezera že splužena.

Okoli jezera z ribiškim pridihom
Če imate srečo, lahko poleti “ujamete” ribiča, ki je imel še več sreče in ujel kapialskega krapa. Več o ribolovu na blejskem jezeru je na strani Ribiške družine Bled. Neuradni rekorder je 245 cm velik som.

Okoli jezera s kolesom
Veliko ljudi kolesari po sprehajalni “peš” poti, kar je ob velikem številu sprehajalcev večkrat nemogoče ali tudi prepovedano s prometno signalizacijo. Posebno ozka pot pod vilo Bled je preozka za kolo. Zato sta na zemljevidu razširjeni kolesarski poti, ki omogočata tudi daljše kolesarjenje.

Če se na Bled pripeljete z avtomobilom, je najudobneje, da začnete na severni obvoznici na parkirišču pri trgovskem centru Špar ali parkirišču ob Cankarjevi cesti. Brezplačno parkirišče je samo na betinovem klancu. Sam sem začel pri parkirišču ob Cankarjevi cesti in nadaljeval po makadamu nasproti parkirišča, Levstikovi cesti, prečkal Ljubljansko cesto in čez Grič do bencinske postaje, kjer sem zavil na Seliško cesto (severno obvozno cesto). Nato ztavijete proti železniški postaji, se spuzstite dso Velike Zake in mimo kampavzpnete do Vile Bled. Po glavni cesti nadaljujete do začetka vaše ture.

Severna obvoznica-Kolodvorska-Kidričeva-Mlino-Mlinska cesta-prelazMegre- cesta v Megre- Cankarjeva cesta
Ta tura je g je primerna za gorska kolesa, saj vključuje “prelaz Megre” s strmim vzponom in zahtevenim spustom. V Mlinu zavijete v smeri Selo in po Mlinkski cesti peljete do apartmajev Ledrar, kjer zavijete levo po cesti s kockami.

Za hišo zavijete desno in po strmem klancu do “Riklijeve kapelice” kjer se držite desno. Po spustu se držite levo in po gozdni cesti mimo zapornic dosežete cesto v Megre, kjer na križišču zavijete levo na Cankarjev o cesto. Gorsko kolo je obvezno.

Turistični vlakec ima 6 postaj: restavracija Panorama ( v bližini restavracije Park), Mlino, Velika Zaka, železniška postaja, Mala Zaka in športna dvorana Bled.

S plavanjem
Najkrajša razdalja od obale do otoka je od vile Bled, najdaljša od Male zake, drugače pa je možo plavati iz vseh strani, razen promenade, kjer je kopanje prepovedano. Na otoku lahko greste iz vode samo na splavu nasproti Male Zake.
S čolnom
Čoln si sposodite v Veliki Zaki ob sodniškem stolpu, Mlinu ali poleg doma ribičev.

Pristani so v Mlinu, pod estavracijo Park in v Veliki Zaki. Pletnarji radi rečejo, če nisi šel s pletno na otok, je kot, da nisi bil na Bledu. Zgodovina pletne sega v čas Marije Terezije.

Peš ali z drsalkami pozimi na otok
To je v času globalnih klimatskih sprememb izredno redko. Nazadnje je bil led dovolj debel leta 2012.
